Jafnréttishús/Equality Centre was founded in April 2008 and offers quality interpretation, translations, Icelandic language courses, community adaptation and counseling.
Jafnréttishús/Equality Centre provides service to facilitate immigrants intigrating in Iceland by offering community studies, interpretation and counseling services. The Equality Centre offers as well Icelandic course for immigrants at three locations in Iceland, Hafnarfjörður, Reykjavík and Reykjanesbær.
The Icelandic language courses organized by Jafnréttishús focus as well on cultural and social adaptation. It is the aim of the Equality Centre to assist immigrants to adapt to Icelandic society and promote active relation between Icelanders and immigrants in order to prevent isolation. Speaking the local language as well as having more understanding of the Icelandic society is an important factor in facilitating this adaptation.
The goal is to help immigrants to adopt easily to the new culture as well to build self-esteem and to be a part of the society.
The office is located at Strandgata 25 in Hafnarfjordur.
